80 Activists arrested in United Kingdom while protesting against waste incinerator expansion

15/04/2009 - in Nottingham, United Kingdom, more than 80 activists were arrested on Easter Monday while protesting against the expansion of the waste-to-energy incinerator of Eastcroft. "According to Nottingham police, the demonstrators were apprehended on suspicion of entering prohibited areas and of conspiracy to commit criminal damage to an industrial facility", reports The Daily Telegraph. Flemish government (re)confirms zone neighbouring incinerator site as agricultural area

24/04/2009 - The Flemish government has today confirmed that the zone that neighbors the site of the Kampenhout incinerator will remain an agricultural area.

The zone has always been destined for agriculture before, but Recover Energy, the privately held company that has plans to build a waste incinerator in Kampenhout, Belgium, wanted it to be converted to an industrial area.

Knokke incinerator breaches carbon monoxide emission levels on 30 days in two months

01/04/2009 - Measurements in the Dalkia waste incinerator of Knokke-Heist, Belgium early 2009 have shown that exhaust emission levels for carbon monoxide (CO) had been breached on 30 separate days. The emission level for CO exceeded the acceptable limits on 9 days in January, and 21 days in February when even the month limit was exceeded.
